A 3% rate is excellent at 100k followers and unremarkable at 1k, so the number on its own tells you nothing. The maths happens on the page: the figures you type are never sent anywhere.

Five things that make this work better
- Compare against your own follower band, not a global average. Rates fall as accounts grow, so a global average flatters big accounts and punishes small ones.
- Calculate on reach wherever the platform gives you reach. Follower-based rates are inflated on any account carrying dormant followers.
- Track the trend, not the number. One post tells you almost nothing; six weeks of posts tell you whether something changed.
- Saves and shares move reach further than likes on most platforms. If you can only optimise for one, optimise for saves.
- A high rate on a tiny account is not a business. Rate is a diagnostic, not a goal: 12% on 400 followers is 48 people.
